Retreat Premier Addiction Treatment Centers to Address Opioid Crisis

Deja Gilbert, PhD, LMHC, LPC will discuss the economic effects of opioids at Economic Forum.

Palm Springs, Fla., June 6, 2017 – Retreat Premier Addiction Treatment Centers has announced that Deja Gilbert, PhD, LMHC, LPC, Chief Business Officer at Retreat, will speak at the Economics of Addiction, the next Economic Luncheon for the Central Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce. The luncheon takes place on Thursday, June 8 at 11am at Breakers West Country Club.

Gilbert will speak on the positive effects getting substance abusers into recovery can have on a local economy. The keynote speaker at the event will be State Attorney Dave Aronberg, and the Chamber’s Medical Board of Governors will be in attendance. ͞Palm Beach County in particular saw a sharp rise in opioid overdoses and deaths this part year, and a resulting rise in criminal, government and healthcare costs, said Gilbert. This forum, along with other initiatives, will make local business leaders more aware of the far-reaching effects substance abuse has on our community and economy.

According to a Palm Beach Post analysis of records from the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office, close to 600 people died of opioid-related overdoses alone in 2016 in Palm Beach County.

It’s so important for local businesses and community leaders to hear these numbers, along with the resulting costs that affect everyone from our healthcare professionals to taxpayers. The immense costs of substance abuse have a direct effect on our local economy, said Gilbert.
