(New Haven, CT) — According to a recent report from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, in the year of 2017, there were a total of 955 overdose deaths involving opioids in Connecticut – a rate of 27.7 deaths per 100,000 people, a number twice the current national rate. With a community in dire need of quality treatment, Retreat Behavioral Health steps in to provide the care and resources that can create a lasting difference.

“It has been a long and lengthy journey up until this point, but we have never lost sight of our goal,” shared Retreat’s CEO and President, Peter Schorr, in a statement. “With high-quality, affordable care we aim to address the opioid epidemic, as well as all other growing substance abuse and mental health issues prevalent to this particular community. By providing individualized care, a peaceful environment, and affordable treatment offerings we aim to become the leading resource for this region.”

Chief Operating Officer, Ken Kosza, also believes that the need for resources in the community is very high. Encouraging to note, however, he sees that the area is filled with talented, promising voices that are equipped to create a much-needed change. “We have come to find some incredibly talented professionals in the region that I foresee becoming great assets to the behavioral health community,” shared Kosza, in a statement. “By building a highly-trained and dedicated team of professionals do we aim to become a trusted, quality resource for a community in need.”

Retreat Behavioral Health is an ever-expanding, cutting edge, and fully accredited company that has locations up and down the east coast. With two inpatient locations, one of which operates as their headquarters in Palm Springs, FL, and another in Lancaster, PA, alongside their newly opened location in New Haven, CT, Retreat is always growing. Offering a full continuum of personalized care, Retreat crafts a unique and personal approach for the treatment of every patient. They offer numerous services including, but not limited to: rehabilitation, detox, intensive outpatient care (IOP), partial hospitalization (PHP), holistic therapy, a comprehensive pregnancy program, veteran services, and Synergy Health Programs, a branch dedicated entirely to mental health services.

Standing as a leader in the behavioral health community, Retreat also actively conducts research on both mental health and substance abuse. Recently their own on-site psychologist, Dr. Brian Berman [PsyD], released his findings on a new form of ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) therapy known as the Choice-Point Model (CPM). The findings suggest that Dr. Berman’s Choice-Point Model of ACT can effectively improve psychological inflexibility, values-based action, and self-compassion in patients. More than 75% of participants experienced continued recovery post treatment. By sponsoring and encouraging members of their own staff to be innovatively engaged within the scientific community, Retreat is always at the cusp of providing the best, most cutting-edge treatments available.

“During our time with our efforts to open this location, it has been revealed that there exists a great need in the community of New Haven for our services,” said Chrissy Gariano [MA], Retreat’s Chief Clinical Officer, in a statement. “I feel confident that we will become that resource for this community when it comes to treatment, education and prevention. The level of commitment and dedication on behalf of my team and other staff members that have pitched in, has been astounding and monumental. It is a true blessing to have the team that we have.”

Members of the community are invited to attend the grand opening of Retreat Behavioral Health’s newest inpatient facility on Thursday, January 9th, in New Haven, CT.
